Central Arizona Shelter Services (CASS) Does a World of Good

Unomojo emphasizes the importance of giving back and making a tangible impact through technology, humanity, and philanthropy. One of the ways we fulfill this mission is by proudly contributing material and volunteer hours to Central Arizona Shelter Services (CASS), Arizona’s largest and longest-serving emergency shelter program.

CASS serves a diverse group of vulnerable individuals, including adults, youth, families, senior citizens, veterans, and people with disabilities. In 2023 alone, CASS provided critical support to 6,902 individuals, offering over 250,000 bed nights. This incredible effort highlights the organization’s dedication to addressing homelessness and providing a haven for those in need.

Making a Difference Together

As just one example of support, Unomojo volunteered to answer donor calls at the Central Arizona Shelter Services’ ABC15 Arizona Telethon. This event was a resounding success, raising over $57,000, which was generously matched by Rafi Law Group. It was heartening to see the community come together to support such a vital cause, and we are proud to have played a role in this effort.

Understanding the immediate needs of those experiencing homelessness, Unomojo has also donated 1,000 bath towels to CASS. These towels are more than just a necessity; they are a symbol of dignity and care for the 6,000 individuals CASS serves annually. In addition to towels, CASS provides a variety of supplies, including water, heat relief, clothing, and hygiene items, to help meet the daily needs of Arizona’s homeless population.

Personal Commitment and Impact

Jolynn, our co-founder, has a deeply personal connection to the issue of homelessness, having faced it herself as a child. This experience fuels her passion for creating programs that provide meals and support to the homeless. “For a child, the feeling of uncertainty and lack of foundation is horrible,” Jo shared. It is this empathy and understanding that drives Unomojo’s commitment to making a difference.

Arizona Governor Katie Hobbs has recognized Unomojo’s efforts and recommended that we continue to do a World of God for homeless children and adults with CASS. Through our ongoing volunteering and meaningful in-kind contributions to CASS, we aim to support those who are most vulnerable in our community.

While immediate relief is essential, Unomojo understands that to truly end homelessness, we must address its root causes. The supply of affordable housing must increase to meet the needs of lower-income households. Until then, CASS continues to provide nightly beds, one-time financial assistance to help people stay in their homes, job readiness programs, and support in finding stable housing solutions.

The count of individuals experiencing homelessness in Arizona increased to 9,642 in 2023, a 30% rise from three years prior. Tragically, 190 homeless individuals died due to heat-related causes last year. These sobering statistics underscore the urgent need for our collective action and support.

At Unomojo, we are committed to partnering with organizations like CASS to make a lasting impact. We encourage everyone to join us in supporting Central Arizona Shelter Services and helping to provide a brighter future for those in need.
